The HypoMon:

Identifies more nocturnal hypos
People with type 1 diabetes have between a 14% and a 50% chance of experiencing hypoglycaemia each and every night, of which only a few are identified. The HypoMon provides patients with much greater awareness of their hypos and will identify at least 80% of their nocturnal hypos.

55% of severe hypoglycaemia episodes occur at night. The HypoMon provides patients with a tool to identify 80% of nocturnal hypoglycaemic events (including severe occurrences) which will allow for hypos to be treated at an earlier stage.

The current management recommendation for type 1 diabetes is tight glycaemic with a target HbA1c <7.5%. This management target has led to a 2 to 3 time increase in hypoglycaemia.  The HypoMon provides patients with a tool to manage the short term complication of this management practice.

Helps with a major management barrier
A major barrier for people with type 1 diabetes achieving target blood glucose level control is the fear of hypoglycaemia. The HypoMon provides patients with an easy-to-use alarm system, which will provide them with the confidence to manage to achieve better control with a vastly reduced risk of experiencing nocturnal hypos.

Helps with gylcemic control
Asymptomatic nocturnal hypoglycaemia has been shown to cause clinically important deterioration in glycaemic control and unexplained morning hyperglycaemia. The HypoMon will allow users to identify and treat asymptomatic nocturnal hypoglycaemia which will help maintain glycaemic control and reduce unexplained morning hyperglycaemia.

May improve hypo awareness

Detection of hypoglycaemia has been associated with improved awareness of subsequent hypos. Patients using the HypoMon will now have the ability to improve their hypo awareness by identifying and treating their sleep-time hypos.

Protects against severe hypos
Improving ability to detect hypoglycaemia may help protect against the danger of severe hypoglycaemia .

Is easy to use for patients and carers
The HypoMon’s comfortable, wrap-around Belt with its Sensor and Transmitter is wirelessly linked to the remote Monitor throughout sleep-time. The system is easily calibrated before each sleep with a single blood glucose test.  The alarm will trigger on the user’s Belt and at the Monitor when physiological changes characteristic of hypoglycaemia occur.
